CASA of Maury County, Inc. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was organized by a group of concerned citizens in the fall of 2005. Maury County Juvenile Court Judge George Lovell had wanted CASA in the county for several years. Marsha Boren had recently moved to the southern Middle Tennessee area and had been affiliated with CASA in East Tennessee and Emily McKnight had gone through training in Davidson County to become a CASA Volunteer. The three of them were able to meet and CASA of Maury County was chartered in October of 2005 training 10 volunteer advocates as CASAs in 2006. They began advocating for the children of Maury County and the mission continues today.
CASA of Maury County Inc. has served approximately 150 children each of the last three fiscal years, 2018 through 2020. The agency is always in need of additional Volunteer Advocates as 35 active advocates would be needed for the current volume of children served. A new training class is held three or four times per year with additional times with the flexibility of training online and in virtual check ins via Zoom.
CASA of Maury County serves one county, but children can be placed with relatives in the state or foster homes throughout Middle Tennessee as placed by the Department of Children’s Services (DCS).
CASA of Maury County Inc. has a Board of Directors as the Governing Board committed to the mission.
