Columbia Power & Water Systems (CPWS) is a public utility proudly serving the citizens of Columbia and Maury County Tennessee since 1939. CPWS is seeking a Mechanic to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and service CPWS’ utility vehicles and equipment.
The primary duties & responsibilities of this position include:
- Perform and document routine and preventive maintenance on CPWS’ vehicles and equipment.
- Repair and replace parts in CPWS’ vehicles and equipment
- Repair and maintain backup generators for CPWS facilities, including the main building, substations, water plant, and broadband facilities.
- Fabricate, weld, and cut materials.
- Install emergency lighting, switches, and decals on CPWS vehicles.
- Assist in performing and documenting annual TDOT inspections.
- Identify mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
- Prepare CPWS’ vehicles and equipment for inclement weather.
- Maintain garage area ensuring safety of work areas and shop equipment. Examples include cleaning up oily/slick surfaces, ensuring flammable substances are properly stored and handled, ensuring the lift functions properly, etc.
- Ensure that vehicles are safe to operate and operate properly. Discuss concerns with EVP of Operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 0 – 100 pounds for 2 hours a day
- Ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing 0 – 25 pounds for 6 hours a day
- Ability to walk
- Ability to stand for 8 hours a day
- Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch for long periods of time
- Ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 4 years of related experience required
- A valid State of Tennessee Driver’s License is required; driving record must meet the requirements to be covered by CPWS liability insurance.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical repair of hydraulic systems, gas and diesel engines, braking systems, and lift device cabling systems required
- Valid Tennessee Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred
Residency Requirements:
- Must reside within a CPWS service territory or Maury County due to the position being subject to stand-by, after-hours, and/or emergency call-out
