Field Service Technician - Water

Columbia Power & Water Systems (CPWS) is a public utility proudly serving the citizens of Columbia and Maury County Tennessee since 1939. CPWS is recruiting a Field Service Technician - Water to read meters and record volume used by over 26,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
 
This position subject to standby, afterhours, and/or emergency call out. Field Service Technicians must meet residency requirements (must reside within a CPWS service territory or Maury County).
 
The primary duties & responsibilities of this position include: 

  • Collect accurate readings for billing purposes
  • Process service orders included but not limited to: meter changes, connects and disconnects, and non-payment
  • Conduct drive-by meter reads following specific routes
  • Inspect meters and connections for defects, damages, and unauthorized connections
  • Verify readings to locate abnormal consumption or stopped meters
  • Record and document reasons for fluctuations in consumption
  • Collaborate with the Senior Water Engineering Office Coordinator and Water Engineering Office Coordinator to maintain the integrity of all billing and metering data
  • Change out metering equipment as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to lift 0 – 50 pounds for 1 hour a day
  • Ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing 0 – 20 pounds for 8 hours a day
  • Ability to walk and stand for 6 – 7 hours a day
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch for long periods of time
  • Ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel
  • Ability to get in and out of a vehicle multiple times during the day
  • Ability to navigate and operate in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, etc., which may require bending, crawling, and maneuvering in tight areas
  • Ability to work inside and outside and be exposed to noisy places, fumes, chemicals, toxic substances, and machinery
  • Ability to be exposed to weather conditions that are cold, hot, rainy, and windy 
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Maintain a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s License; driving record must meet the requirements to be covered by CPWS liability insurance.
  • Highly proficient in operating iPads and other electronic devices
