SUMMARY:Ribbon Cutting: City of Mount Pleasant
DESCRIPTION:Join Maury Alliance for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the new city scape of Mt. Pleasant!\n\n...\n\nThis celebration will take place in conjunction with Mount Pleasant's annual barbecue festival\, bringing residents\, businesses\, and visitors together to enjoy downtown while celebrating its continued growth and renewal. It is an opportunity to showcase the improvements being made\, recognize the partnerships that helped make them possible\, and celebrate the businesses and community members who continue to invest in the future of downtown Mount Pleasant.\n\n \nMount Pleasant was incorporated in 1824 and began as a small agricultural community. Its history changed dramatically with the discovery of phosphate in the 1890s. The resulting mining and industrial boom transformed the community and earned Mount Pleasant the distinction of being known as the "Phosphate Capital of the World." The population grew rapidly\, businesses flourished\, and much of the historic architecture that continues to define the community today developed during this period. \n\nAs the phosphate industry declined during the latter half of the twentieth century\, Mount Pleasant experienced many of the economic changes faced by small industrial communities across the country. Today\, however\, Mount Pleasant is experiencing a new chapter of investment and revitalization\, particularly in its historic downtown. The City has worked to protect that the past including establishing historic zoning and Mount Pleasant became Tennessee's 50th Certified Local Government for historic preservation in 2022\n\nIn partnership with Mount Pleasant Main Street\, the City is building on that history by encouraging private investment\, supporting local businesses\, preserving historic properties\, and creating new opportunities downtown. The goal is not simply to preserve Mount Pleasant's past\, but to use that history as a foundation for its future making downtown once again a thriving center for business\, community\, tourism\, and economic growth.
